About Us
Pavilion Dance is Bournemouth’s national dance house which opened in September 2010. It is a centre of excellence for dance locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
People of all ages and abilities can take part in dance classes, workshops and watch world-class performances by UK and international artists. We also offer space for professional dancers to rehearse and create new work as well as hiring our unique spaces to schools and groups wanting to develop their talents.
The dance centre has a welcoming foyer, two light and spacious studios and a stunning 200-seat auditorium with cutting-edge technology.
Pavilion Dance is unique amongst dance centres in that it includes access to the largest ballroom on the south coast, outdoor terraces and the main Pavilion Theatre auditorium which seats 1,400, so offering the chance to show world-class dance in many different styles and formats. Pavilion Dance is operated by Dance South West, in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council and BH Live.
Dance South West is the national dance development agency, funded by Arts Council England.
Pavilion Dance is the portal through which Dance South West connects with venues, artists and audiences throughout the region and puts Bournemouth and the South West on the map as a beacon for inspirational dance.
It has benefitted from £3.29 million capital investment by Bournemouth Borough Council in the renovation of a previously disused part of the much-loved Pavilion Theatre. It is the first project to be delivered as part of the Town Centre Master Vision - an imaginative plan to reinvigorate the town centre to the benefit of residents, visitors and the local economy.
Pavilion Dance is a ground-breaking project offering great dance for all, and works with a range of partners in creating new projects. It provides first-rate facilities for artists to perform and create new work, and is influential in the region and beyond.
