Here's what some of dance artsist and companies say about us:
Laila Diallo, March 2012
The studio and surrounding environment provided an ideal setting for creating. What better place to mull over thoughts of migration than by the sea?
We were warmly welcomed and the staff at reception were always ready to help. The technical support during the residency was good and our needs were met swiftly. It was very inspiring. The studio itself, bright and filled with daylight, was very conductive to working and energising.
Replica Dance Company, January 2012
During our time at Pavilion Dance we have felt nurtured and supported not only through our initial creative process for our latest work, "4:14", but also in its development. Our time at Pavilion Dance has also enabled us to work with people from other art forms, constantly providing a new experience for us and other artists in an inspiring and creative environment.
"We have also had the opportunity to deliver workshops and company class, which has greatly enriched our development as a company. The staff are always willing to help and we have to thank Ian for going the extra mile to guide us in the right direction. His balance of professionalism and good humour should definitely be noted. We would recommend Pavilion Dance from someone thinking about getting into dance to professional dance artists."
Puppik Dance – January 2012
Pavilion Dance are extremely easy to talk to. Having a residency that is posted on Facebook helps our potential audiences to know what is evolving. During the rehearsals there is just the right amount of face-to-face interest - Pavilion are interested in what is happening in the studio but we are also left to it. This approach of being able to freely use the studio, kitchen and other spaces without intervention really allows one to crack on with the job of making dance!
What was really amazing was to be able to use the theatre space to create and rehearse. As a choreographer this is an important part of the process. To be able to start to watch what has been made through the eyes of an audience breathes life into the movement material and enabled me to set more human moments.
The Arch of Starch – January 2012
Thanks again for the residency; it allowed us to begin researching how we can move in the Croctopus. The undisturbed use of the theatre meant we were able to do plenty of focused work. We worked out how to manage the giant puppet in a large, safe space.Teaching the workshop was beneficial in our aim to develop a strong educational strand to our work and we have begun reflecting on how we can improve the workshop structure. Thank you for putting us in touch with Replica and we hope to continue to build a strong relationship with Pavilion Dance and your advice and guidance is invaluable to us at this crucial stage of development.
balletLORENT – November 2011
Delighted with the facilities that Pavilion Dance had to offer, we couldn’t have asked for any more. The staff had a great understanding of what a dance company needs including studios at the right temperature for company class that was set at the right temperature and informative, supportive technical staff and the arrangement for a visual artist to work with the children before and after the performance to enhance everyone's experience.
It was great to see SOLD OUT signs on our publicity material when we arrived and a much-needed washing machine and dryer for sweaty costumes! The staff worked as a team throughout our visit and this worked as a huge strength for the organisation.
Hannah Sharpe, Project Manager for State of Emergency productions says:
It was great being in residence at Pavilion Dance during State of Emergency’s production week. The technician, was absolutely fantastic, always happy to help (above and beyond) and was flexible as things changed. The facilities are also great and the general atmosphere of the staff is friendly and welcoming. On top of all of that, it is by the seaside! What more can a company need?!”
Charlotte George, Royal Academy of Dance says:
"the venue was perfect for our first Summer School in Bournemouth. The staff at Pavilion Dance were very accommodating and helped us out in every way possible. We used the foyer area and the Green Room for lunch and this seemed to work well, and all the other facilities such as toilets, changing rooms were always clean and accessible for the students.
I am about to start planning for next year's Summer School and hope that we will come back to Bournemouth soon. Many thanks for all your help and please pass on our gratitude to all of your staff at Pavilion Dance."
Fleur Darkin/ Dance Chora Choreographer says:
It was a real treat to come, breathe the sea air and work in the studio all day. If we could, we would decamp to Pavilion Dance. It is exactly the kind of place that is conducive to making work. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and looked after us wonderfully. The rehearsal spaces are
fantastic, uplifting and high quality and the theatre is a great size and great to work in.
"This is an inspirational building and natural environment, most of the company ran on the beach in the mornings. The sea is healing and could Pavilion Dance not be England's answer to Cove Park?"
